Welcome to PCCO
Founded in 1958 as the Columbus Area Council on Alcoholism, The Prevention Council of Central Ohio provides alcohol and drug prevention programming to communities throughout Franklin County and Central Ohio.
The agency began as a collaboration of Franklin County judges, ministers, and leaders of the AA fellowship who wanted to advocate for the needs of addicted persons in Columbus.
Starting in 1983, PCCO made the transition to prevention programming and today is one of Franklin County's most comprehensive prevention agencies.
Just the Facts:
Every year, more money is spent promoting the use of alcohol than any other product. Perhaps through its use of elaborate and creative marketing tactics, the most basic, yet important fact about alcohol is often overlooked — alcohol is a drug — the most commonly used and widely abused psychoactive drug in the world.
One concept that many people find difficult to accept is that alcoholism and alcohol problems are a disease. Research has shown that alcohol interacts with the body’s systems in predictable ways to lead to physiological addiction.
Please remember, alcoholism is a disease — a chronic, progressive and fatal disease if not treated.
