About Southside C.H.I.P.
Southside C.H.I.P. (Children Helping In Prevention) provides alcohol, tobacco, and other drug prevention programs to youth Kindergarten through 12th grade in Merion-Village area on the Southside of Columbus. The goal of Southside C.H.I.P. is to ensure that Southside youth have the opportunity to live a safe, positive drug-free life.
Southside C.H.I.P. offers the following programs:
H.O.P.E. Groups (Helping Our Peers Excel) - a 10-week group for children whose lives have been affected by drug/alcohol addiction. The group experience provides participants the opportunity to share emotions appropriately, to practice decision-making skills, enhance their coping skills and lets them know they are not alone. The program is free and is held at various Southside schools during the children’s lunch period.
After school programming* - a school-year program that takes place designed to help school-aged youth with homework, provide a safe environment, teach Alcohol Tobacco and other Drugs awareness, field trips, community service and volunteer opportunities. Incentive based field trips, speakers and events are additional ways this we create a fun and safe ATOD-free environment! The After-school program is free to Southside residents.
Summer Day Camp* - Our 8 week summer program incorporates Alcohol Tobacco and other Drugs awareness, arts and crafts, and structured recreation. This program is offered to school-aged students during the summer break. Southside C.H.I.P. Summer Day Camp provides Alcohol Tobacco and other Drugs alternative activities in a fun, safe and healthy atmosphere. Participants will participate in a variety of activities that will increase their leadership abilities, enhance their creativity, strengthen their problem-solving skills and challenge them physically. A nutritious breakfast, lunch and snack are provided to any registered participant. Incentive based field trips are scheduled to increase the fun!
Middle and High School In-school groups - a 10-week alcohol, tobacco and drug prevention program for middle and high school students. The groups provide participants the opportunity to share experiences, to practice decision-making skills, and enhance their coping skills. The program is free and is held at various Southside schools during the lunch period.
